A vehicle crash originally thought to be an accident late Thursday was a homicide, Sacramento police said.
A 49-year-old man was found dead in a red Honda CR-V after the vehicle plowed through two gates and into the side of a house just south of Curtis Park on 15th Avenue and Franklin Boulevard about 11 p.m., a police spokesman Sgt. Norm Leong said.
Police found that the victim had suffered upper-body trauma that did not seem to have been caused by the crash and instead was consistent with injuries associated with a homicide.
Responding to reports of an accident, police found that the SUV had hit the side wall of the home, damaging the structure as well as the front end of the vehicle.
A parking lot at least 40 yards long and enclosed by white metal gates separated the home from Franklin Boulevard. Evidence indicates that the vehicle traveled over the Franklin Boulevard sidewalk, through one gate, across the parking lot, through another gate and into the home.
An occupant of the house, who was asleep in the bedroom at the time, was not injured, Leong said.
Anyone with information regarding this case may be eligible for a $1,000 reward and is asked to call Crime Alert at (916) 443-4357.
