Joga Singh Kahlon, a 50-year-old man, was found dead in his home Friday in the 1900 block of Mammoth Way, according to Sacramento authorities.

Police say they responded to a call at 10:10 p.m. Friday, from a relative of the man who was concerned about his well-being. When officers entered the home, they found the victim's body and identified trauma marks indicating he had been killed.

The Sacramento County Coroner's Office identified Kahlon today. His death had been announced earlier by the Sacramento Police Department.

Police said the motive is unknown.

Jackie Kahlon, a 23-year-old resident of Pinole, told The Bee this afternoon that she was the daughter of the deceased. Reached by telephone, she said her parents divorced about 16 years ago and that she had been estranged from her father since that time. She declined to provide her mother's name.

Jackie Kahlon said she was unaware of her father's death until The Bee's call. She said that her father was Sikh and that he had remarried. The coroner identified his wife as Harjit Kaur.

"It's never a good feeling when you've heard someone died, even a stranger," Jackie Kahlon said.

An investigation of the death is under way. Sgt. Norm Leong, Sacramento Police Department spokesman, said there so far was "no evidence to determine there was any connection to his religious beliefs, or the previous homicides in Elk Grove and Marla Way."

The Sacramento Police Department is asking anyone with information on the crime to call (916) 443-4357 or text 274637 by entering SACTIP followed by the information. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

Sacto 9-1-1 Q&A

Q: What happened with the case regarding Marc McCormick? He was accused of videotaping a woman in her home and was arrested. He lives in my neighborhood and I see him all the time. Were charges dropped?

A: According to Sacramento Superior Court online records, misdemeanor charges have been filed against Mark William McCormick, alleging that he used a camcorder or other instrument to view an individual in a place where there was an expectation of privacy, trespassing and peeping.

His next court date is June 4.

According to Sacramento police logs, McCormick, 40, was arrested March 8 after the victim reported that a friend had entered her home without her knowledge to secretly videotape her.
