One man is dead and another is in jail after a fatal stabbing in Sutter County late Sunday.
Sutter County Sheriff's detectives were called to the Sutter Food and Mart at 7505 Highway 20 in Sutter at 8:21 p.m. and found a man with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three men had followed the male victim into the store, and when the victim left, two of the men followed him outside, a sheriff's news release states.
Witnesses told deputies that the victim ran around the outside of the store and the other men chased him. The victim staggered in front of the store and collapsed, the release states.
The male subjects fled the scene.
Detectives identified one of the men suspected in the crime, Hector Alvaro Baca, 30, and arrested him. Baca, shown at left, is being held without bail in Sutter County Jail on suspicion of murder, actively participating in a criminal street gang and violating probation.
The victim's identity has not yet been released, pending notification of his family.
The investigation is ongoing and detectives are asking that anyone with information to call them at (530) 822-7307 or to leave a tip through the sheriff's website at www.suttersheriff.org.
