Sacramento Blue Diamond almond factory fire extinguished

A small silo fire broke out at the Blue Diamond almond factory in Sacramento early Tuesday morning.

At around 1 a.m., the Sacramento Fire Department arrived at the factory at 1701 C St. after the security guards smelled smoke and determined that it was coming from one of the silos.

Assistant Fire Chief Niko King said that the walls of the silo were covered with dust, and the fire department suspects that sparks from a welding project earlier in the day may have ignited the fire.

King said that extinguishing the fire only required one squad of firefighters, who used the aerial ladder to haul the water to the top of the silo. No damage was done because the silo is concrete and not susceptible to fire damage.
