A man arrested earlier this month on suspicion of stabbing a man during a fight is now accused of homicide.
The victim, Jesse Perez, 54, of Sacramento, died Sunday of injuries suffered July 13.
Kenneth Vega (pictured), 41, is in Sacramento County Jail, accused of the stabbing.
Sacramento police officers responded to a fight at Broadway and Alhambra Boulevard at 1:23 p.m. July 13. They located Perez, who had an apparent stab wound to the neck. Perez was transported to the hospital, where he underwent surgery for his injuries.![]()
Detectives believe Vega had been socializing with friends and had assaulted one of them with a knife just before Perez arrived, according to a Police Department news release. When Perez arrived, Vega allegedly attacked him, punching him in the head and neck. It later was determined that Perez had been stabbed, not punched, police said.
Investigators identified Vega as the suspect in the stabbing. He was located at a relative's house later that day and booked into Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide. He now is accused of homicide.
