A 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with Sunday's shooting death of Mario Rodriguez at a Foothill Farms apartment.
Sacramento County sheriff's homicide detectives arrested Manuel Guzman (pictured below) early this morning at a residence outside Sacramento County. He was booked in Sacramento County Main Jail and is being held without bail.
At 11:45 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a report that a man had been shot at the Alder Grove Apartments in the 3900 block of Madison Avenue. When they arrived, they found Rodriguez dead of a single gunshot wound to his upper body, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.![]()
Officials said initial information given to investigators the night of the shooting was false. At the time, a witness reported that two men fled the apartment after one of them got into a physical fight with Rodriguez and shot him.
Further investigation, however, revealed that the suspect was Guzman, a resident of the apartment where the shooting took place, according to sheriff's deputies. The two men initially reported to be suspects were acquaintances of the victim and were at the apartment. They fled after Guzman allegedly fatally wounded Rodriguez during the confrontation, according to the news release.
The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (916) 874-5057.
