Woodland authorities investigate bloody attack on 74-year-old man

Woodland police say a man who suffered a head injury in an attack near his home is holding his own in intensive care.

Police are also asking for help in finding the assailant who badly injured Pascual Lopez, 74, on Wednesday.

Police said that Lopez was found unconscious in a pool of blood about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Academy Lane. Lopez was taken to UC Davis Medical Center.

No motive for the assault is known.

"We really don't have much because we have not been able to talk to him," said Sgt. Steve Guthrie.

Lopez was found in an alley behind his house. A citizen witnessed the attack and called police as soon as it happened.

It is not known if he was hit with any object but no weapon was found. Lopez suffered a skull fracture, police said.

"They say he will pull through," said Guthrie.

The assailant was described as a man about 6 feet tall, slender and "light-skinned" with short, dark hair. Anyone with information is asked to call (530) 661-2411.
