An alert witness helped Placer County Sheriff's deputies track down two bank robbery suspects minutes after the crime occurred Monday afternoon, according to a sheriff's department news release.
At about 2:25 p.m., the release states, a woman entered the Bank of the West branch in the 13400 block of Lincoln Way in Auburn and handed a teller a note, stating she was armed and demanding money.
The woman was given an undetermined amount of money and walked out of the bank, the release states.
Witnesses outside in the shopping center told responding deputies they saw the suspect climb into a getaway car parked behind the bank and driven by a male suspect, the release states. One witness was able to provide a vehicle description and possible license plate number.
Minutes later, about 12 miles from the bank, deputies staking out Interstate 80 saw the vehicle traveling westbound on the highway near Rocklin Road. They arrested the two occupants without incident, on suspicion of bank robbery, the release states.
The names of the suspects have not been released pending verification of their identities, the release states. Both have reportedly been booked into the Placer County Jail.
