Five people were injured after two vehicles collided Tuesday morning at a Foothill Farms intersection.
According to a California Highway Patrol news release, a 17-year-old boy and his 16-year-old sister were in a Jeep Cherokee heading westbound on Elkhorn Boulevard at 7:15 a.m. when the young man said he was unable to see because of the sun's glare and followed a car in front of him through the Sprig Drive intersection.
A 22-year-old Sacramento woman was driving southbound on Sprig Drive with her brother, 18, who was in the passenger seat and sister, 14, who was sitting behind the passenger seat when the Jeep collided with the right side of their Mitsubishi sedan.
After Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District personnel removed them from the sedan, the woman and her brother were taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Hospital. She suffered major injuries and her brother is listed in critical condition. Their sister was taken to UC Davis Medical Center, also with major injuries.
The Cherokee driver and his sister were taken to Sutter Roseville hospital with minor injuries.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the collision.
