A Sacramento Superior Court jury has convicted three men of a gang killing three years ago in the Colonial Village North neighborhood.
The jury on Tuesday convicted James Lamar Riggins Jr., who is now 21, in the Jan. 11, 2008, shooting deaths of Isidro Rivas, 18, and Rigoberto Aguirre, 22. Riggins was identified as the gunman in the 73rd Street murders.
Two more defendants were convicted today of voluntary manslaughter in the killings. They are Orlando Gabino Camacho, now 21, and Christopher Anthony Hernandez, 20.
Judge Gary S. Mullen, sitting in for Judge Lloyd G. Connelly, who presided over the trial, scheduled the sentencing for Oct. 7.
Riggins is facing a term of at least 50 years to life in prison. Camacho and Hernandez are looking at likely terms of 33 years and eight months, Deputy District Attorney Donell Slivka said.
Sacramento police investigators identified the three defendants as being members of the Varrio Diamonds street gang. They were accused of seeking out the confrontation with the victims on suspicion they were gang rivals.
The defendants also were convicted of the attempted murder and attempted voluntary manslaughter on a third man who was injured in the shooting.
