Pedestrian hit by car near Rio Linda suffers major injuries

A pedestrian suffered major injuries when he was struck by a car last night on Pleasant Grove Road just north of Rio Linda.

Ernesto Beltran, 64, of Pleasant Grove, was reported in critical condition last night with major injuries to his head and chest, according to a California Highway Patrol press release.

Beltran was trying to cross Pleasant Grove Road just south of Sankey Road when he was struck by a car driven by a 49-year-old motorist from Antelope at about 5:45 p.m. The roadway was closed for about 40 minutes while medical workers stabilized Beltran's condition before taking him to the hospital.

Any witnesses to the crash are asked to contact the CHP at (530) 674-5141. Alcohol was not a factor, the CHP said.
