A Union Pacific train struck and killed a bicyclist riding along the tracks today, Redding police reported in a press release.
The man, who has not yet been identified by officials, was riding a mountain bike along the east side of the tracks just east of State Route 273, south of the Clear Creek Bridge.
The train sounded its horn, but the cyclist appeared not to hear.
The collision threw the cyclist into the air.
He was pronounced dead from his injuries at the scene.
