The California Highway Patrol seeks the public's help in the investigation of a Monday night collision on Capital City Freeway in which a motorcyclist died.
Sequoia Jones (pictured), the registered owner and suspected driver of a white Volkswagen Beetle that fled the scene of the crash, was arrested Wednesday by the CHP. Authorities are seeking information regarding Jones' whereabouts between 3 and 8:50 p.m. Monday.
Monday's collision occurred about 8:50 p.m., as Robert Wilson, 64, of North Highlands was riding a blue 2003 Suzuki GZ 250 motorcycle northbound on Capital City Freeway, north of El Camino Avenue, traveling about 65 mph. A Volkswagen Beetle, also northbound, was negotiating through traffic, when the left front of the Volkswagen struck the right side of the motorcycle, causing Wilson to be ejected onto the roadway. He subsequently was struck by a red 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse.![]()
The driver of the Mitsubishi stopped and remained at the scene. The driver of the Volkswagen initially stopped, but fled in the vehicle moments later, according to the CHP.
The Volkswagen was found a short time later, unoccupied, on eastbound Interstate 80, east of Madison Avenue.
Jones met with CHP investigators Wednesday morning for an interview regarding the collision, but officials said she invoked her rights and refused to give a statement.
Jones was arrested and booked into Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter. Bail is set at $500,000.
Anyone with information about the collision or Jones' whereabouts in the hours before the collision is asked to call the CHP's Special Investigations Unit at (916) 338-6710 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or the Sacramento Communications Center, (916) 861-1300.
