Davis police report thieves stealing tires, wheels from cars

The Davis Police Department is warning residents to be alert to thieves who have been stealing tires and wheels from vehicles in the city.

Lt. Paul Doroshov said 20 such incidents have been reported since late January, including five this month.

The latest theft was reported Monday. Police said the owner of an Infiniti sedan had parked the vehicle in the lot of his apartment complex at 955 Cranbrook Court. When he returned to the car at 9:50 a.m., he discovered all four wheels missing and the vehicle on blocks.

Nine of the vehicles targeted have been Honda Civics.

Doroshov said the thieves may be stealing the wheels and tires to supply chop shops, or they may be selling them on Craigslist or other websites.

He urged residents to be alert and to report suspicious activities to police.
