Folsom Police say the stabbing death of young man over the weekend may have been the result of a drug deal gone bad.
The death of the 19-year-old Folsom man was solved only minutes after his body was found Saturday night, although the investigation into his killing continued into the next day.
Police said that Joshua Allen Atkins (photo right), 22, caught an officer's attention when he sprinted in front of a police car on East Bidwell Street just before midnight Saturday.
Officer Jason Browning said the officer caught up to Atkins a few blocks away in an alley. The suspect "directed" the officer to a knife he had hidden nearby, police said.
Two officers responding to the scene found a victim lying face-down on the sidewalk in the 600 block of East Bidwell Street, Browning reported in a news release. The man was not responsive and had no pulse.
Folsom Fire Department paramedics took the man to Mercy Folsom Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Atkins was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of homicide.
The identity of the victim has not been released by the Sacramento County Coroner's office, pending notification of family.
