A 20-year-old Oakland man visiting acquaintances in Davis was chased and beaten by two assailants this afternoon.
Davis police Lt. Paul Doroshov said the incident occurred about 4:30 p.m. He said the man was walking on the sidewalk along Covell Boulevard when he was approached by two African American men who demanded money and his cell phone. The victim tried to get away from them, but they chased him across Covell into an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Shasta Drive. There they cornered the victim and beat him over the head with a club.
Doroshov said the victim was unconscious when officers arrived. He was transported to UC Davis Medical Center, where he is recovering.
No arrests have been made.
Doroshov said the assailants were described as in their late teens or early 20s, about 6 feet tall and of medium build. Both were said to be wearing baggy white T-shirts, and one man was wearing a dark-colored baseball cap.
