A Sacramento man was sentenced to 21 years for the fatal beating of a Loomis resident.
Kenneth Lewis Massey Jr., 24, was sentenced today for the September 2009 killing of Rudy Ramos. Pursuant to a plea agreement, Massey pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and three counts of influencing the testimony of a witness, according to the Placer County District Attorney.
Sacramento police officers arrested Massey at his south Sacramento home in 2009 on a Placer County warrant. Placer sheriff's detectives alleged Massey bludgeoned 34-year-old Ramos to death in Ramos' Loomis home.
Ramos was found in his home in the 3700 block of Berg Lane by a friend who came by to check on him Sept. 14, 2009 after Ramos had not answered his telephone.
Using cell phone records, prosecutors said they were able to place Massey and Anthony Cordero at Ramos' home on Sept. 12, 2009, the approximate time of his death. The case was largely circumstantial and hinged on testimony of Cordero, prosecutors said in a press release.
Cordero pled guilty to battery causing serious bodily injury and accessory to the killing of Ramos. He is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday.
