Sacramento police have arrested a homicide suspect in Southern California where he was living under an assumed name.
Augustine Aranda, 28, was arrested in El Centro, Imperial County. He was living there with a woman who was not aware of his true name or that he was wanted for the killing of Mark Vincent Colquitt on March 8, Sacramento police said.
Police found 48-year-old Colquitt lying near 21st Avnue and Franklin Boulevard about 5:45 a.m. March 8 after residents reported hearing gunshots. He died at a local hospital.
Detectives have not identified a motive.
In an interview after his death, Colquitt's mother said her youngest child was born in France - the son of an Air Force veteran - and graduated from Hiram Johnson High School.
Colquitt had three older brothers, and was father to a son, 10, and a daughter, 20.
His mother said Colquitt lost his job as a Transportation Security Administration officer at Sacramento International Airport about two years ago, and previously had worked as a manager at several fast food restaurants. He was living in south Sacramento with a roommate and his son.
Detectives received information that led to Aranda as a possible suspect. With the help of the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement, Aranda was found in El Centro.
