Sacramento State police are investigating the rape of a female student by an acquaintance last week, according to a police news release issued today.
The assault allegedly took place about 2 p.m. Oct. 13 in a residence hall room on the California State University, Sacramento campus, the news release states.
The incident was reported to university police about 5:45 p.m. Saturday, according to the release.
Police are "aggressively pursuing leads to take the alleged perpetrator into custody," the release states.
In the wake of the alleged incident, police encourage those on campus to do the following:
- Program the police dispatch number, (916) 278-6851, into your cell phone.
- Learn the location of the nearest blue emergency phones on your routes through campus.
- Report any inappropriate behavior, suspicious activity or criminal acts to police immediately. Delays "only slow the investigation and will lessen the chance of an arrest," the release states.
- Always be aware of your surroundings, and watch for suspicious people or vehicles, and go to a safe place if approached by a suspicious person or vehicle.
- Don't be afraid to make noise if you are attacked.
- Never give out personal information to someone you don't know.
Anyone with information or questions about this incident is asked to call police at (916) 278-6851.
