An employee in the preschool program at Woodbine Elementary School in Sacramento was removed from the campus this morning following allegations that the individual engaged in inappropriate conduct.
District spokesman Gabe Ross said the allegations were made this morning, and district officials immediately placed the employee on administrative leave and contacted police. Ross declined to comment on the nature of the alleged conduct or the employee's position in the program.
Sacramento Police Department spokesman Sgt. Andrew Pettit said the department has initiated an investigation to determine whether any crime was committed. District officials said they will work closely with police.
Ross said 23 students are enrolled in the preschool program at the school at 2500 52nd Ave. in Sacramento's Woodbine neighborhood.
Families of Woodbine students and school staff members were notified of the incident. Ross said Principal Scott Oltmanns used the district's automated telephone-dialing system to call families and also sent letters home with all students.
"The safety and security of our students is our top concern," district Superintendent Jonathan Raymond said in a written statement. "We will not tolerate any behavior that risks the safety of kids."
