A 27-year-old man suspected of stealing copper wire was arrested today after Sacramento police responded to an activated alarm in the 3500 block of Auburn Boulevard.
The incident occurred at 6:41 a.m. and when officers arrived, they discovered that a burglary had occurred. The perpetrator had left, but police found a backpack at the scene which they traced to Steven Trotter.
Officers contacted Trotter at his residence, where they found tools used in removing and stripping wire, according to a Police Department news release.
Trotter was arrested without incident.
Police urge people in the community to be alert to suspicious activity near street lights and intersections. Anyone seen working on street light or traffic light wiring, when a city vehicle is not present, should be reported to the police. Witnesses are encouraged to obtain as much information about the suspects and their vehicles as possible to provide to the police dispatcher.![]()

One resident photographed suspicious activity and provided the department with photos of a man ( left) and a woman (right). Police said they would like to speak with the individuals shown in the photos and encourage them to call the department.
