Sutter County crash kills driver

A Yuba City man died when his car went off Highway 99 and into an irrigation ditch late Tuesday, California Highway Patrol officials reported.

Daniel C. Loehrer, 56, of Yuba City, was driving southbound on the highway, south of Yuba City, when his Acura went off the road for unknown reasons, according to the CHP accident report.

The car went into the ditch, overturned and slid on its roof in about a foot of water.

Fire personnel had to use cutting tools to get to Loehrer, who was not wearing a seat belt, according to the report.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
