Two people suffered major injuries in a head-on collision this afternoon on Foresthill Road in Placer County.
A 79-year-old Foresthill man was driving a white Nissan pickup westbound on Foresthill Road west of Spring Garden Road about 2:05 p.m., and a 32-year-old Foresthill woman was traveling in the opposite direction in a silver Toyota Avalon. For some reason, the pickup crossed over the double yellow lines and collided head-on with the Toyota, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
The drivers were the only occupants of the vehicles and both were taken by air ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
The roadway was blocked for about two hours.
The cause of the collision is being investigated by Auburn area CHP officers. The Foresthill Fire Department and Placer County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.
