Sheriff's detectives have arrested a man in connection with the theft of five plaques from the Wall of Honor in Patriots Park.
Casey Ryan Alger, 37, was booked into Sacramento County Jail Thursday on suspicion of petty theft and receiving stolen property.
Carmichael Parks and Recreation District staff discovered on Dec. 19 that five memorial wall plaques had been removed from the wall, at 6827 Palm Ave.
The plaques are memorial tributes to former Carmichael residents who were first-responders in the law enforcement or medical professions, or members of the military, and who sacrificed their lives while working in those professions, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.
Detectives received a tip from a recycling business regarding Alger, who deputies said had tried to sell some brass. The metal he was trying to sell was one of the plaques, according to a sheriff's department press release.
That plaque was recovered, however the other four have not been found, according to the sheriff's department.
Anyone with information about the stolen plaques is asked to call the Sheriff's Department Property Crimes Bureau at (916) 874-5115.
