The name of the man killed in his car in the Parkway neighborhood on Wednesday has been released by the Sacramento County Coroner's office.
Coroner's deputies identified the man as William Frederick Stephens, 36, of Sacramento.
Police spokesman Sgt. Andrew Pettit said police were called to the 3900 block of Samos Way in the Parkway neighborhood around midnight. In the driveway of a home in that block police found Stephens dead in his car from a gunshot wound to his upper body.
About the same time, other officers saw a motorist driving recklessly about a mile away at Sunmeadow Drive and Franklin Boulevard. Officers chased that vehicle for a short distance before the driver pulled over and fled on foot.
Police surrounded the Sunmeadow area and SWAT officers were called out.
The suspect was found hiding in a yard. Due to the closeness of the two incidents to each other, police believe the erratic driver might be tied to the homicide.
However, no arrest has been announced by police and no motive for the killing released by officers.
