A 21-year-old man has pleaded no contest to five counts of vandalism for tagging property in downtown and midtown Sacramento with graffiti.
From May to July 2011, Nicholas Larson vandalized downtown and midtown walls, signs, sidewalks, poles, trash bins and other property with graffiti tags under the moniker "Reid" and "Reidel", according to a Sacramento County District Attorney's Office news release.
An investigation by Sacramento police and code enforcement officers, and the District Attorney's Office led to service of a search warrant at Larson's home. During the search, officers found a variety of graffiti tools and controlled substances.
Under the plea agreement, Lawson was sentenced to 60 days in county jail, three years probation and restitution to the city of Sacramento for cleanup costs. He also is subject to search and seizure, prohibited from possessing markers and other implements that could be used to deface of property, and his driver's license will be suspended for one year.
The case was prosecuted by Susan Nelson, the district attorney's community prosecutor, who deals with quality-of-life crimes that occur in the downtown Sacramento area. The position is funded by the Downtown Partnership, the city of Sacramento and Regional Transit.
