A high-speed chase on Highway 99 has ended this evening with one person in custody.
Officer Laura Peck, spokeswoman for the Sacramento Police Department, said police believe the man in custody is one of two suspects in the Dec. 28 robbery of the Metro PCS store at 5301 Power Inn Road in which a store employee was shot in the leg.
Peck said officers had spent the day following up on the robbery when they spotted a possible suspect in a green pickup truck and attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspect drove away. When the truck entered the freeway and headed south on Highway 99, Peck said, police handed the pursuit over to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP spokesman Officer Michael Bradley said the CHP took up the chase about 6:15 p.m. and the pursuit continued south to Liberty Road in San Joaquin County. The driver of the truck then turned around and headed north, back toward Sacramento. Bradley said law enforcement officers blocked onramps to the freeway to keep other vehicles out of the path of the pursuit.
When the truck reached the Elk Grove area, officers deployed spike strips, causing two of the truck's tires to go flat.
The driver slowed down and finally pulled over. Surrounded by law enforcement vehicles, the driver emerged from the truck and was taken into custody about 6:45 p.m..
Peck said police are not releasing the name of driver until the victim in the robbery has an opportunity to view a photo lineup.
