Fires in North Highlands, Rio Linda, first of the new year

By Bob Shallit

Firefighters quickly contained an attic fire in North Highlands Sunday morning - the third of several small blazes to start the New Year.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to a call at 10:14 a.m. of fire coming from a chimney at 4947 Jackson St.

The fire spread to the home's attic but was soon contained, said Assistant Chief Scott Cockrum.

There were no injuries.

Fire officials say the blaze originated in the fireplace.

Two overnight house fires - both in Rio Linda - were the first for 2012.
