A bicyclist wearing no helmet and without proper lighting on his bike suffered major injury last night when he was broadsided by a Jeep in Linda, Yuba County, according to the CHP.
The bicyclist, Laurence R. Kundert, 53, of Marysville was riding a mountain bike northbound on North Beale Road just east of the intersection of Hammonton-Smartville Road about 8 p.m. Monday.
The California Highway Patrol said that he was wearing dark clothing, was helmetless, was without proper bike lighting and may have been wearing headphones when he was hit by a vehicle eastbound on North Beale Lane.
The driver of the Jeep Cherokee that hit Kundert had a green light and suddenly saw the bike rider in front of her, according to a CHP press release. She applied her brakes but still struck the bike, causing major head trauma and body fractures to Kundert.
