A three year old in a stroller was pushed into traffic Thursday by his drunken mother, Redding police said.
The stroller with the little boy in it was then hit by an SUV. The child suffered broken bones and was eventually flown to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
Redding police said the incident began when Michelle Dawn Sudeta, 25, of Redding began to cross Eureka Way near Overhill Drive about 8 p.m. Thursday.
She was pushing her son in a stroller, trailed by her two daughters, 8 and 9 years old, who urged their mother not to cross the road because it was dangerous, according to a police press release.
When she got to the center lane of Eureka Way, police said she briefly paused and then abruptly continued, pushing the stroller into the path of an on-coming Ford Expedition.
The driver did his best to prevent a full force impact, veering away from the stroller. Still, the little boy was hurt and the stroller demolished.
Police said that Sudeta was arrested on suspicion of endangering the lives of children and booked into Shasta County Jail. Police allege Sudeta, who is homeless, was intoxicated, agitated and uncooperative at the scene.
