Shaffer guilty of murder in Rancho Cordova sex killing

A Sacramento jury today convicted Demetrius Shaffer of murder in last year's sex killing of Rajneet Kor Singh.

The Superior Court panel also found Shaffer guilty on seven other counts of sexual assault on a second victim in an attack that took place on Thanksgiving Day 2010.

Judge Maryanne G. Gilliard scheduled the sentencing on the 32-year-old defendant for Feb. 16.

Evidence in the case showed that Shaffer met up with Singh, 37, in the early-morning hours of Jan. 1, 2011, at the apartment of a mutual friend in Rancho Cordova. The two then went to the Rancho's Club Casino across the street where video cameras showed the two leaving at 3:39 a.m.

Singh's body was found behind a brick wall a block away from the casino.
