A suspect has been arrested in connection with a Monday night stabbing at a Rio Linda bar.
David Kirkland (pictured), 32, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon and is being held in Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and battery with serious bodily injury. He also is being held on an abeyance hold because of his post-release community supervision status, according to a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department news release. His bail is set at $245,000.
Shortly before 11:30 p.m. Monday, deputies were called to the Lew's Club bar in the 6700 block of Rio Linda Boulevard regarding a man who had been stabbed. They found a 24-year-old man with a knife wound to his abdomen, and a 42-year-old man who had been assaulted with an unknown object. Both were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Deputies obtained a description of the suspect, who had left the bar before they arrived.
About 4:30 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to a call from security personnel at Mercy San Juan Medical Center, reporting that Kirkland was inside the hospital. Kirkland had been observed there the day before, but he left before deputies arrived.
Deputies found Kirkland, who matched the description of the suspect in the attack at the bar. Officials said Kirkland later was identified by one of the victims as the person who assaulted him.
Investigation into the case is continuing, and anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Department's Crimes Against Persons Bureau at (916) 874-5070.
