A Yolo County jury has found a Woodland man guilty of workers' compensation insurance fraud.

Stephen Eugene Harder, 45, was convicted Tuesday in a case relating to his claim for benefits, according to a Yolo County District Attorney's Office news release.

On Feb. 26, 2009, the District Attorney's Insurance Fraud Unit received a complaint from the State Compensation Insurance Fund alleging that Harder was attempting to exaggerate his industrial injury and claiming that it was more severe than it was.

During the investigation, officials said, Harder was observed acting, moving and appearing in a manner that was inconsistent with his claimed injuries. He was videotaped engaging in gold mining activity that sharply contrasted with how he presented himself to doctors who were treating him, according to the news release.

Harder is to be sentenced March 23 by Yolo County Superior Court Judge Steven Mock.

Sacto 9-1-1 Q&A

Q: I had a friend Ron Anderson who was killed on the Garden Highway Levee road on his motorcycle 4 or 5 years ago. I heard a teenage girl had turned in front of him and he had no chance to stop. Were there any other reasons for the acciden, alcohol, speeding, illegal turn? Any information is appreciated. I am not looking to blame anyone just curious, Ron rode fast and liked to drink. Thanks, we miss him

A: According to stories in The Bee, 40-year-old Ronald Anderson of Rio Linda was riding a motorcycle north on Garden Highway on June 14, 2008, when a southbound Honda CRV started to make a left turn onto San Juan Road.

The motorcycle struck the right side of the Honda. Anderson was ejected from the motorcycle and died from injuries suffered in the crash.

The driver of the Honda, 18-year-old Kathryne Ikegami of Wilton, and her passenger were not injured.

According to Sacramento County Superior Court online records, a complaint was filed charging Ikegami with a misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter, but the charge was dismissed.
