A Yolo County jury has convicted a Vallejo man of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon in the theft of an iPhone.
On Sept. 26, 2010, Calvin Tommy Johnson, 27, contacted the victim, who had listed an iPhone for sale on Cragslist, according to a Yolo County District Attorney's Office news release. Johnson arranged to meet the victim at a Davis shopping center to complete the transaction.
After examining the phone, Johnson took it with him to his car to get his money. But once in the car, Johnson told the driver to take off, officials said.
The victim tried to grab his iPhone from Johnson as the car sped away and was dragged alongside the vehicle. After a short distance, the victim fell from the car and Johnson tossed the iPhone out the window, destroying the phone.
Over the next six months, Davis police officers used Johnson's email contacts with the victim to track down Johnson in Vallejo.
Johnson is to be sentenced March 2 by Yolo County Superior Court Judge Kathleen M. White.
