Former Lassen County postmaster pleads guilty to embezzling

The former postmaster of the Lassen County community of Bieber has admitted to embezzling postal funds.

Kristina Michelle Morris, 38, of Bieber pleaded guilty today in federal court in Sacramento to embezzling money from the Bieber Post Office, according to a federal Department of Justice news release.

According to court documents, between Oct. 1, 2010, and May 11, 2011, Morris stole approximately $23,554 from the Bieber Post Office while employed as the postmaster. She took small amounts from the post office's cash and issued postal money orders for amounts greater that what she actually paid for them, using them to pay for her personal expenses, officials said.

Morris is to be sentenced May 14 by U.S. District Court Judge Kimberly J. Mueller.

The case resulted from an investigation by the United States Postal Service's Office of the Inspector General.
