A man who was apparently suffering delusions fired a handgun into the home of his sister in Galt, wounding his brother-in-law, police said.
The man then fled before being captured on Highway 50 about 8:30 a.m. near Bass Lake Road in El Dorado County.
Galt police said the incident began about 6:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Whitford Court in Galt when Lonnie Ray Orman, 41, went to his sister's home under the erroneous impression that his niece was being harmed.
His family believes he was suffering from delusions, according to a police news release.
When he was refused entrance, Orman allegedly fired rounds from a handgun through a front door, one of which struck his brother-in-law in the shoulder.
Orman's sister, fearing her brother would enter the home, returned fire through the door from inside the home, striking Orman.
Orman then fled in his vehicle. He was located by tracing his cellphone "ping" to Highway 50. His wound was not life-threatening.
His brother-in-law was expected to recover, authorities said. Orman, who lives in Oregon, but had been staying with his parents in Galt, was to be booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted homicide, police said.
