Authorities report two suspects in weekend homicide at Folsom State Prison

Two suspects have been identified and removed from the general prison population following a homicide Saturday involving an inmate in a medium security unit at Folsom State Prison.

The names of the suspects are being withheld pending investigation, according to a news release from the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Inmate Richard Allen Leonard died after being assaulted with a slashing-type weapon.

Leonard, 44, was serving a 25-years-to-life term for aggravated sexual assault on a child. He was convicted in Orange County and began serving his sentence Sept. 2, 1998.

Officials said a normal program has resumed for the majority of the Folsom State Prison population, but one segment remains on a modified program pending further investigation.
