Davis police seek man accused of harassing children

Davis police are searching for a man who harassed two 11-year-old girls as they were walking home from school Monday.

Officers were called to the area of West Eighth Street and Oak Avenue about 3:24 p.m. regarding a report of suspicious circumstances. The girls reported that as they were walking home they saw a man crouching next to a white van.

He told the youngsters, "I want to show you something," then placed his hand on his crotch, according to a Police Department news release. Police said the man remained fully clothed and did not expose himself.

The two girls ran to a safe place.

The suspect was described as white, 25 to 35 years old, about 5 feet 7 inches tall with an average build, black hair and stubble on his face. He was wearing a white T-shirt with blue jeans.

The man left in a large white passenger van with tinted windows and was last seen driving north on Oak Avenue, according to the news release.

Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone with additional information to call the Davis Police Department at (530) 747-5400.
