Sacramento County sheriff's detectives say they are in desperate need of the public's help in trying to solve the fatal shooting of a 41-year-old man in his driveway Wednesday night.
So far, detectives have no idea who shot Antonio Jordan, pictured at left, or why anyone would have wanted him dead, said homicide Sgt. Jim Barnes. They are reaching out to the public for help.
"I'm worried about this one going unsolved," Barnes told The Bee. "Here we are, two days removed from the incident, and we have not gotten any viable tips."
Jordan had just returned home from visiting his mother, who he helped care for, when he was shot multiple times in the driveway of his home on Ingleside Way, near Power Inn and Gerber roads. Callers reporting hearing up to 10 gunshots, according to the Sheriff's Department.
Detectives have found nothing in the man's past to explain the killing, Barnes said. Though he has a criminal history, his last case was a misdemeanor drunken driving case in 2001.
"I believe, in my heart, he was a changed man," Barnes said. "He was very religious, very involved with his grandchildren."
One theory is that Jordan might have been involved in a road rage incident as he drove home. Detectives are asking that anyone who might have witnessed an issue between Jordan, driving a green 1995 Chevrolet Blazer similar to the one pictured at left, and another driver please contact detectives.
Witnesses did not report hearing any sounds of a car speeding from the neighborhood after the gunshots, so detectives suspect the shooter ran from the area on foot. However, they noted the shooter might have gotten into a car nearby. They are asking for anyone who saw anyone suspicious in the area to contact them as well.
"Honestly, we need help on this one," Barnes said.
Anyone with information is asked to call homicide detectives at (916)482-8521 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP. Callers can remain anonymous and might be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
Family members say they will be holding a carwash at Florin and Franklin roads at 9 a.m. Saturday to raise funds for Antonio Jordan's funeral.
