Cache Creek's missing rafters delivered to safety

Search and rescue crews have found the two women reported missing overnight on Yolo County's Cache Creek.

Yolo County Sheriff's deputies searched this morning along the creek for the two women overdue from a rafting trip.

Sheriff's Sgt. Lance Faille said each of the women were reported missing this morning by relatives. The two rafters, along with, as it turns out, three others, put into the creek on Sunday.

Faille said the sheriff's department this morning began a search and rescue operation, including an airplane and helicopter.

A raft with five people aboard was soon spotted by the airplane crew. Around noon, the five on the raft, including the two women reported missing by relatives, were delivered to safety by fire crews.

The rafting party apparently discovered that even with recent rains, the creek was very slow. When low water made the trip downstream difficult they decided to place the raft on the bank and build a fire for an overnight stay.

They then continued on in the morning. Fire crews eventually found them.
