A suspected bank robber who claimed to have an explosive device was fatally shot by police late Wednesday afternoon, Citrus Heights Police officials report.
Jon Kempf, Citrus Heights Police officer, provided these details:
About 4:15 p.m., police received a call of a burglary in progress at Union Bank, 5748 Sunrise Blvd. A man claimed to have a gun and an explosive device.
Officers surrounded the bank before the man came out of the building. Feeling threatened, police fired at the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Because of the report of an explosive device, police cleared the area and called in the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department bomb squad. After 7 p.m., it was determined there wasn't an explosive device at the bank. Police then began processing the scene and interviewing bank employees and customers.
