Sacramento police are investigating an attempted bank robbery that authorities believe may be related to similar cases in Vacaville and Chino.
At 9:45 a.m. Friday, Sacramento police officers were called to the Tri Counties Bank in the 1700 block of Challenge Way regarding a man armed with a rifle. He was described as wearing a black ski mask and a bulletproof vest under a green-colored raid vest with a gold badge, according to a Police Department news release.
Although the bank was open for business, police said the man attempted to enter through a locked rear door. When bank employees refused to open the door, he left in a dark-colored sedan.
Detectives believe he may be responsible for two bank robberies in other communities.
On Feb. 29, a suspect (left photo) matching the same description and armed with a rifle robbed the California Bank and Trust in Chino. When police arrived, he opened fire, striking an officer.
On March 12, the Vacaville Police Department responded to the Bank of the West, where a suspect (right photo) wearing similar gear and armed with a rifle robbed the bank. Police say he may have been observed leaving the bank in a dark-colored sedan (pictured).
