Sacramento police today said an undercover copper sting resulted in the arrest of six Sacramento recycling plant employees Wednesday.
The investigation alleges that detectives uncovered numerous violations at Tomra Recycling Network, and River City Waste Recycle in Southeast Sacramento.
Arrested and booked into Sacramento County Jail were Roman Michael Rudy, 40; Bryan Drew Wilson, 38; Luis Caro, 22; Michael John Wright, 40; Shaun Evan Kalwani, 32; and Gyan Kalwani, 60.
Sacramento detectives posed as sellers of copper wire, manholes and other metals to find out whether Sacramento area recycling plants were complying with California law when paying for metal.
"Over the three month period, the undercover detectives observed a variety of violations," said police spokesman Justin Eklund. "Everything from being paid cash immediately on the spot for metals, not accepting identification or accepting identification that clearly was not the seller of the copper."
