Coroner confirms identity of body recovered from Sacramento River

The Sacramento County Coroner's office this morning confirmed that the body recovered on Monday from the Sacramento River was that of 15-year-old Shabnam Ahmadyar of Elk Grove.

Divers found her in up to 30 feet of water, just 15 feet from the dock where her clothes had been found Saturday afternoon. The spot, across the roadway from 10991 River Road, was just yards from where cadaver dogs indicated to handlers that they detected her scent.

Ahmadyar has been missing since Friday afternoon, when she wandered from her family's Chamberlin Circle home while her mother was on the phone.

Ahmadyar was considered at-risk because of mental illness.
