Man convicted of molesting child who is deaf

A Sacramento County jury has convicted a 38-year-old man of multiple counts of child molestation involving a young victim who is deaf and has a learning disability.

Robert Ruiz was a friend of the victim's family. The girl's parents trusted Ruiz because he and his family, including Ruiz's children, were also deaf, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney's Office news release. Officials said the victim was a friend of Ruiz's children and frequently spent the night at his home.

Ruiz molested the young girl over a period of four years before she reported the abuse to school personnel, officials said.

Ruiz is to be sentenced June 1 in Sacramento Superior Court.
