Man jumps in front of Redding bus, mini van

Redding police said they believe that a man was under the influence of a drug when he jumped in front of a bus and then a minivan.

The man, Jamal Essayah, 24, identified as a transient, was hit by the two vehicles about 3:45 p.m. Thursday on the Cypress Street Bridge over the Sacramento River.

He first jumped in front of an eastbound Redding Area Bus Authority bus. After being struck, he got up and ran 50 yards before jumping in front of an eastbound minivan.

Essayah, who was severely injured, was transported to the hospital. Redding police said that he appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine.
