Andrew Jeffries (pictured), 33, was taken into custody at 7:30 a.m. after he was located at a residence in Sacramento, according to a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department news release. He was booked into Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of homicide and unlawful possession of a firearm by an ex-felon, and is being held without bail.

Shortly after 2 a.m. March 28, sheriff's deputies responded to the 1700 block of Kasser Road in Elverta regarding a man found lying on the roadway. The victim, later identified as 33-year-old Anthony Ortega, had gunshot wounds to his upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff's officials said homicide detectives are continuing their investigation, and the case remains open. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (916) 874-5115.
