Bus driver in crash accused of driving under influence of prescription drug

A 52-year-old Pride Industries transit bus driver was arrested this morning on suspicion of driving under the influence of a prescription drug after the vehicle she was driving ran off the highway in Olivehurst.

Ellen Kay Enright of Olivehurst was northbound on Highway 65 at northbound Highway 70 at 7:45 a.m. transporting a passenger who uses a wheelchair. Because of her alleged altered level of consciousness, Enright allowed the bus to weave back and forth on the roadway, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. The bus left the pavement and struck a roadway sign on the right dirt shoulder, officials said. The vehicle then glanced off a tree and continued short distance before Enright brought it to a stop.

Neither Enright nor her passenger, a 24-year-old woman from Wheatland, was injured.
