The man who was shot after fleeing from a gang enforcement team last week has been released from the hospital and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
Juan Javier Alvarado, 21, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, having a concealed firearm and carrying a loaded firearm registered to another person, according to jail booking records.
Alvarado was shot by a California Highway Patrol officer May 23 after he was pursued by the officer and a Sacramento County sheriff's deputy, both of whom are assigned to an anti-gang team led by the Sheriff's Department, who tried to contact him.
During the pursuit, authorities allege, Alvarado turned around, pulled out a gun and pointed it at the CHP officer, who then fired. Alvarado suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his lower body.
Officials recovered a gun from the scene that they believe was brandished by Alvarado.
