A 32-year-old man remained hospitalized late this afternoon after allegedly attempting to rob a Fair Oaks bank, then crashing as he fled on a moped.
Sacramento County sheriff's spokesman Deputy Jason Ramos said the department received a call at 9:10 a.m. regarding an attempted robbery at a Chase bank branch at 4802 San Juan Ave. A few minutes later, the Citrus Heights Police Department reported that a man on a moped had crashed at Madison Avenue and Lincoln Oaks Drive, and it appeared he might be the suspect in the bank robbery attempt.
Ramos said no weapon was seen and the man left the bank before receiving any money. He said it appeared the man, who suffered cuts in the crash, may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Ramos said the man, whose name has not been released, will be booked after he is medically cleared.
